About
Just as Louis L'Amour said "Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow unless the faucet is turned on." The free-write technique of writing has been encouraged in many programs. In fact, award-winning author Cressida Cowell launched an initiative for Free-Write Fridays in the UK. It has had different names but the purpose is the same. We want to just write without judgement, without expectations and without self-editing. The purpose of this class is to simply sit down for 10 minutes and be given a topic sentence and be able to write whatever we feel comes to mind. This could be a poem, it could be a bunch of words, it could be the same word 30 times if you are having a particularly difficult day. The point is to write. Students have the option to share at the end of the 10 minutes or not. I recommend a private folder for students to put their work and own the choice of whether to share it or not. Topics are random, each week will be created from the selection of a topic sentence in the first few minutes of each class by a dice roll. This could be a week about cats or being invisible! Let's find out and write about it.
